Bronzewing Pigeon, Lake Esmond, Canadian, Victoria

This is one of a number of Common Bronzewing Pigeons (Phaps chalcoptera) that live around Lake Esmond. This one looks to be a female. The males emit a low booming call, particularly at this time of year, attempting to impress the girls. They get their name from the bronze flash that you see on their wings (actually flashes of green, blue and red). Photo taken August 2021.
