The call of the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a quintessentially Australian sound. Having said that, there were many older movies where the Kookaburra’s call was used as a background noise in tropical jungle scenes! Also, the Kookaburra is an introduced species in Tasmania!
